| SportsPower / Forestville Basketball Camp Wrap
Over 100 Forestville juniors ranging from Under 10's to Undr 16's participated in the SportsPower January Clinics held at Wayville.
The clinics were open to all players from all divisions and those that attended were put through a series of agility, shooting, ball handling, closeout and screening drills.
Despite the warm weather, players worked hard throughout and are now able to transfer those skills into their daily practices.
Thanks to SportsPower for their generous support, for all your sporting needs please check them out. |
| Forestville Girls triumph in Eltham
The Eltham Basketball Tournament is a huge competition which this year involved 956 teams (around 9000 players), making it one of the largest annual junior basketball events in the world.
Forestville had 3 teams travel to Melbourne over the weekend for the event.
Our Under 14 boys were competitive in the majority of their pool games with close results to both Bulleen 2 and Oakleigh, the team now aiming to use that experience for the competition back home.
The Under 12 Girls were undefeated and finished top of their pool before also knocking off Hawthorn and Melbourne in the cross-over finals, resulting in a Grand Final match against Knox Raiders. The team battled well against a strong Knox outfit before finishing runners-up 18-30, coaches Jason Joynes and Deb Freer very proud of the team’s achievements.
Jo Clark and Daniel Haebich coach our Under 14 Girls team which finished 2nd in their pool, dropping only 1 game to Melbourne by 24 points. This meant cross-over final matches to Sturt and Bulleen, the girls winning both of these before a Grand Final rematch to Melbourne. In a tight tussle, the girls had a 26 point turn around from their previous encounter, resulting in a premiership winning 29-27 scoreline.
Thank you to all supporters who travelled and to those involved with the 3 teams. Congratulations to the Girls on their successful Eltham finals wins.

| Forestville Extends Sympathies To The Malan Family
Forestville would like to extend our sympathies and well wishes to the family and friends of Andrew "AJ" Malan, who passed away suddenly last week at the age of 21.
Many at Forestville would know AJ from his time in Under 18 and 20 teams at Forestville, but his involvement with basketball at Southern, South Adelaide, SASI, an Under 16 state team, and the Australian Christian Schools team, afforded many others the opportunity to meet and spend time with him.
Those who knew AJ will no doubt remember him for his positive outlook and consderation for others. It was impossible to meet AJ and not take notice of the concern he showed for friends, family, teammates and coaches, nor the positive manner in which he dealt with difficult situations. In a world where these traits are becoming less common, AJ was unique for someone his age.
Our thoughts go out to his parents Adriana and Paul, his brother David and his sister-in-law Stephanie. |

| Junior Player Development Program 2011-2012
Have you assessed a specific weakness in your game that requires some extra attention?
Are you seeking additional training sessions that address ball handling, shooting, post move, defensive footwork issues?
Due to the popularity of our individual training sessions, the club has introduced a Junior Player Development program which will have individual sessions and specialist group sessions available to Forestville junior players of all ages and abilities.
Players will participate in a 4-week block of sessions from an assigned coach, to reinforce techniques and will be limited to no more than 4 players per group.
The objective of the program is to address the area of skill deficit and reinforce it by coordinating with the player’s team coach and ensuring the player takes responsibility themselves for assigned home practice.
A number of time slots on different days are available for players to be referred into individual development sessions.
To enquire about booking a spot for either an Individual session or a Specialist Clinic, players or parents will need to contact their head coach |
