Trent Fildes to Georgia College & State University
25/05/2009
The Georgia College & State University Men's basketball head coach, Terry Sellers, has announced the signing of Trent Fildes. Fildes comes to Milledgeville from Miles Community College in Miles City, Montana. He joins former teammate and current Bobcat Jake Rios.

Trent started with Forestville as an under 12 player and worked his way through our junior program to seniors. Along the way, he was included in SASI squads, selected to represent SA Metro and also was selected in the Australian Emus squad before relocating overseas to play college ball in the USA.

Fildes averaged 15 points and 6.9 rebounds per game at Miles this past season. He was named First team All-Mon-Dak Conference. Trent made 134-of-249 (.538) field goal attempts and 24-for-70 (.343) three point field goal attempts this season. He also shot 82.8 percent (111-134) from the free throw line. Miles went 19-11 this past season.

"Trent is a 6-foot-5 skilled forward that can play both the small forward and power forward position," said Sellers. "We really like his versatility and his overall shooting ability. Trent can knock down the perimeter jump shot with consistency and will help our team on the boards. We are very excited he has chosen to continue his career here at GCSU."

His stats from Miles Community College this year can be found at

CABL MASCOT PROGRAM LAUNCHED
17/03/2009
As one of several exciting new initiatives for the 2009 CABL season, our Mascot of the Day program was officially launched recently. CABL women’s and men’s coaches Sharon and Andy Simons drew the names of the lucky Under 10, 12, and 14 players who will get up close to the action on game nights this year......and didn’t they get dressed up to do it!!!!

The results of the draw are displayed in the foyer of the club, with winners to be contacted well in advance of “their” game.

Also on display are the allocations of CABL players to junior squads for trainings throughout the year (another great new initiative to allow our juniors to meet and learn from our stars), along with this seasons volunteer roster for CABL games.

Be sure to check when your team is rostered on, and be part of the CABL action this season!!! Go to CABL menu above.

Letter to Team Managers
17/03/2009
Dear Team Managers,

On behalf of the Basketball Operations Committee, we would like to thank you for volunteering your time to the crucial role of tam manager for the 2009 season.

We are excited about some of the initiatives we are putting in place this year to encourage a stronger integration of players of all age groups, and we think the benefits will be felt throughout the entire club.

These initiatives include;
CABL players being allocated to an under age squad to attend and assist at selected trainings or games throughout the season.
• This has been enthusiastically adopted by the CABL players and coaches, and will help our younger players identify with our elite players.

Mascot program for Under 10, 12, 14 boys and girls at CABL games
For every CABL game this season, 1 lucky boy and 1 lucky girl will have their name drawn to get up close to the CABL action!
• Draw conducted prior to season – girls with women’s team, boys with men’s team
• Six games throughout season for each age group
• Meet and have a photo with their favourite player
• Change rooms before and after games (half time if appropriate)
o 1 parent allowed with them
• Sit on bench during the game
• Presentation with players at after game supper
• Every home and away game

CABL home game night volunteer roster
We are very lucky at Forestville to have a great facility and we are encouraging supporters to come and enjoy it whilst watching some great basketball on a Saturday night during the CABL season. To assist, we are making admission to CABL games at Wayville FREE for Forestville supporters. Once there, people will be able to enjoy great meals based on theme nights, full bar service, and attractions for the kids, and obviously some great basketball!!!!

To make this happen, the Basketball Operations Committee is asking for your help. A roster has been developed to include EVERY team within the club playing its part in making CABL games at Wayville a huge success, both in terms of support, but also financially.

Most teams will only have one roster for the season, some have two, but hopefully it will be seen as a great chance to get together socially and contribute to the success of the club whilst having a great time.

Each team has been allocated a two hour roster for one of the following;
• Meal cooking
• Bar work
• Floor wipers/video operators

As managers, we are asking if you could coordinate 4 people (more if you like!) from your team for your designated shift. A copy of the roster is included, and another copy will be on display in the foyer at Wayville. We trust this gives you plenty of notice, and we look forward to seeing all age groups having a great time at CABL games this season!
If you have any questions, please contact either Steve Davenport (0417 839 235) or Daryl Sellar (0408 322 397).

Thanks again for your great work!

Due to the fact that training only recommences after holidays on Wednesday, October 8th (Thebarton, 6pm), it is hoped this information gives parents time to consider the availability of their son for this tournament, and notify Division 1 coach Paul Arnott at the first training.

It is expected players will travel down on the Saturday morning for a potential lunch time game, with games completed Sunday afternoon.

Motel accommodation has been booked at Mt Gambier for the Saturday night, so could you please advise the team manager at the first training of the number of family members likely to make the trip.

Should players wish to travel down on the Friday night (most likely after the first game of the summer season), they will need to organise their own accommodation for that night.

More details will be available on the night of the first training.

Cancelled for Sunday the 27th July
22/07/2008
Please note that Training's for teams at the following stadiums have been cancelled for Sunday the 27th July. Wayville, Pulteney and William light

I do not have enough courts left for everyone to train on so this is the only thing I can do. If coaches want to organise something different with the teams then that's fine but all above stadiums are out of action for the hole day. Any teams that are at other stadiums still have normal training times. This doesn't happen very often so please try and understand and use it for a team building exercise out side the normal training methods.

Kind Regards

Team for Bejing announced ~ Brad Newley makes it
11/07/2008

The Australian Olympic Committee has revealed the twelve athletes that will contest the 2008 Olympic Games as the men’s basketball section of the 2008 Australian Olympic team.

Please find here the AOC’s release: Strong team face tall order 11 July 2008

With NBA big man Andrew Bogut and international stars David Andersen and Matthew Nielsen taking the court, that elusive Olympic medal for the Australian men’s basketball team may be in sight.

“We really have a talented group of guys going over and if we can push through the first round we have the ability to surprise everyone with our results,” Olympian Chris Anstey, who finished fourth in Sydney 2000 said.

Anstey, the reigning National Basketball League most valuable player, heads to Beijing with Olympic experience and high expectations for the team.

“We’re right up there with the European teams at the moment. We have a really unique style of basketball and if the teams we play don’t adapt to it in time, we’ll have a good advantage over them.”

Fresh off the back of a challenging tour in Europe and clean sweep series against Iran and New Zealand, the Australian team is in the valuable position of returning home for a training camp before arriving in Beijing.

“We’re fortunate to have this time to fix the issues we’ve identified in Greece and get over to Beijing with the best preparation we’ve ever had,” head coach Brian Goorjian said.

The biggest test for Goorjian is blending Bogut, Nielsen and Andersen with the other players after long seasons away in the American and Russian leagues.

“The challenge we face now is learning to play together,” Goorjian said. “The quality of players and the depth of experience we have is really exciting, but when Bogut joins us, we’ve got just eight days to make it work.”

Backing the household names such as CJ Bruton and Glen Saville will be some fresh new faces whose impact is certain to be felt both in Beijing and the coming years of international basketball.

Rising stars Patrick Mills (19) and Joe Ingles (20) are among six players making their Olympic debut in Beijing.

“The young players are going to be very important to our results,” Goorjian said. “They’ll be playing and contributing in Beijing but you’ll be watching them for the next two Games to come.”

Australia have drawn a tough group for the Games, facing Athens gold medallists Argentina, Asian champions Iran, Lithuania, European champions Russia and one team to be determined in a qualification series next week.

They avoid the powerhouse US ‘Dream Team’, 2006 world champions Spain and hosts China in the preliminaries. Goorjian will however put his team up against the United States in a pre-Olympic face-off in Shanghai on August 5.

With the “face of the Games” Yao Ming hitting the boards for China, men’s basketball is set to be the biggest team sport in Beijing.

At a difficult time for the sport domestically, the Olympic Games promise to mark an exciting time in the growth of Australian basketball.

Men’s basketball section of the 2008 Australian Olympic team:

David Andersen / Forward/Centre / 212cm
Chris Anstey / Centre / 213cm
David Barlow / Guard/Forward / 205cm
Andrew Bogut / Centre / 213cm
CJ Bruton / Guard / 188cm
Joe Ingles / Guard / 203cm
Patrick Mills / Guard / 181cm
Brad Newley / Guard / 198cm ( Forestville Eagles)
Matthew Nielsen / Forward / 209cm
Shawn Redhage / Forward / 202cm
Glen Saville / Guard/Forward / 197cm
Mark Worthington / Forward / 202cm

Interstate Wrap-up
16/06/2008
Victoria played host to 24 Forestville teams over the long weekend, hosting tournaments in Ballarat, Nunawading, and the prestigious Melbourne Classics.

In the home of the Minerdome, the Men's Under 20 Div 1 and Div 2 Gold teams took out their respective Grand Finals, making the journey back home a little easier.

Further east in Nunawading, the Under 16 Div 1 Girls fought out a 5 point win in their final to Knox to bring home the bacon, while the Under 18 Boys Div 2 Blue side came 2nd in their Grand Final to Woodville's Div 1 side.

The invitational Melbourne Classics were again held in Albert Park for the Under 12's and 14's and down town Dandenong for the 16's and 18's. Being an elite competition with the best Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney teams invited, the club did well to have 5 teams competing over the weekend. With 16 teams competing in each age group, results were:

U12 Girls - 10th
U14 Girls - 5th
U18 Girls - 4th
U14 Boys - 15th
U18 Boys - 2nd

Congratulations to all these teams. A special mention to Steve Boyton's Under 18 Girls who played off for bronze and Tony Casella's Under 18 Boys who played off in the Grand Final against home crowd favourite, Dandenong. To have both these sides competing as far, was certainly a first for the club. It was great to see club members (some making last minute travel alterations) out in support to watch these teams do battle.

Thanks to all coaches, parents, players, managers, support staff, in making the weekend an enjoyable one for the club. I hope to hear there were no arguments on the long drive home as clashing music tastes came to a head.

Dave L

State Champs 2008
10/05/2008
The Forestville Eagles Basketball Club would like to thank all who attended or assisted in any way over the weekend in what was a successful tournament for the club. There were tears of joy, tears of happiness and everything in between as our club did battle against other Metro and Country clubs who made the journey.

Some important points of note as a result of our on court performances include:

- 1 missing whiteboard marker
- 17 teams competing in the major rounds
- U 18 Boys Div 2 Blue
- U 12 Girls Div 2 Blue
- U 14 Girls Div 1
- U 18 Girls Div 1 teams winning their respective premierships.
- Girls State Champion award being retained by the club
- Under 14 Girls being invited to compete at the National U 14 Club Nationals.
- Under 14 Boys being invited to compete at the National U 14 Club Nationals.

To have both teams heading away to represent the club at the Nationals is an outstanding achievement, something in which all who are involved with, should be very proud. It is a testament to the playing, coaching and support staff of those groups who now have the opportunity to compete against the best under 14 clubs across Australia. We wish all the very best of luck and support in their endeavours to have a successful trip.

Under 14 Talent Identification & Development Camps
10/05/2008
During the school holidays the club was well represented at the camps by both the boys and girls.

In the Girls Development Camp, All-Star 5 recognition was awarded to Nikita Trewartha, Brittany Radak and Grace Clark with Bianca McDonald being rewarded for her efforts with MVP honours. While for the boys, Jordan Sellar, Jarrad Basnec and Adam Smyth were awarded All-Star 5 status.

The T.I. Camps, which are often a chance for players to showcase their skills for selection in to the SASI program, proved to be successful for those invited to attend. Selected in the All-Star 5 from this group were Jasmin Johnson and Amy Watson, well done to these girls for this achievement.

A special congratulations to Jasmine Trimboli who was acknowledged as MVP, a great accolade considering the depth of talent in attendance.

Daryl Moyse (1949-2008)
29/02/2008
It is with sadness the club announces the passing of club stalwart, Daryl Moyse, on 23rd Feb 2008 due to illness. Those who knew Daryl counted him as a true mate, someone who was always available to lend a hand, a bit of a character, devoted club and family man.

Daryl was a player with the West Torrens Eagles, before we became known as Forestville, and remained with the club as a passionate supporter, parent, and long time dedicated volunteer who was acknowledged with Life Membership in 2001.

Condolences and thoughts to wife Tita, sons Daryl and Jeff, and to all family and friends.

A friend to all

Sweeny's State Manager U/20 Men
11/02/2008
While our young athletes are setting there sights on playing state basketball they will to be in good hands once again. Michael Sweeny will be doing everything he can to get the U/20 Men over the line at the National Basketball Championships in Albury. Sweeny's has been working behind the screens for months to have everything organised travel, accommodation, uniforms and all the nuts and bolts that it takes to get a team on the floor just to play. The boys could not be in better hands with years of experience and the knowledge that Sweeny's processes. The boys will not want for anything and will certainly be well catered for while experiencing a life time dream of playing State basketball at the highest level.

All at the club hope Sweeny's has a great and rewarding trip. We know what time and effort he puts in, if the boys come with their game hats on then be rest assured that Sweeny's will have them rested and well feed off court.

Matho.

Kelsey Ireland
28/01/2008
Kelsey Ireland is packing her bags and heading to Canberra to for fill part off her goal to one day play for Australia. She now has extra elite clothing to help her remember her junior days at Forestville, with club president Paul Prior presenting her with a bag filled with the all the new and impressive clothing that the club is moving into this season so she will fill and be at home.

The club is a buss that this talented player has been added to the AIS program for those that know her well she deserves everything that comes her way. Kelsey has done the hard yards things have not come easy for this basketball junky. If you want Kelsey then she is easy to fined always on court at the closest stadium or back yard ring. Just shooting hoops no Kelsey has had the same attitude from day one the harder the work ethic the more you will get back. This is something that she has dreamed, Kelsey never lets a chance go by accessing every coach, person and team mate to help her reach greater heights. If you set the bar at one level then she strives to take it to the next level.

Forestville have a very high option off this young lady having played all her junior basketball and ABL last season at the club. We know that Kelsey is very proud to be at the club and the families that make this place special. Kelsey you are talented have a burning desire to achieve at the highest level the will to do what ever it takes to make it, you have passion for the game, we all at Forestville will follow you and watch as you achieve your dreams. The club is thankful for the bench make you have set as others strive to follow in your foot steps they now have someone to look up to and follow.

All the very best for the future we all would like to see you achieve and one day grace us with your on court talent at the Forestville Eagles.

Eagles Holiday Camp A Smash
28/01/2008
The Forestville Eagles Holiday Camp held form 21st to 25th January was a total success with 103 players and 13 coaches attending over the five days. 75 U/12 and U/14 Boys and Girls started the week rolling on Monday/Tuesday making the best of the coaching available while leaning the game and have heaps of fun as well. On Wednesday/Thursday the U/16 Boys and Girls arrived 17 in total and they left very knowledgably and with allot move positive outlook about the game. With such a small number the personal coaching that each player received would have been extremely beneficial. Friday saw the U/10 Girls arrive 11 out off 13 good numbers, no boys attended which was a shame but other opportunities later. The Girls made the most of the time on court with fun games and different drills and skills learned along the way all seamed to have had a enjoyable time.

Thank-you to the coaches for there time over the five days you help is appreciated and also the work you do during the year. Sports Power with vouches and give always gave us great support. The club is always looking for new ideas and ways to improve we hope to run more camps in the future so any feed back would be very much appreciated, please direct this to Glenn Mathieson Basketball Manager 0417855247 this could be positive or negative to become better then we need to take all in.

Please go to the menu above - Juniors/Photos/2008 Eagle Camp to view the photos. Matho.

With the high level off commitment made each week this is just reward for them and we hope they continue to develop and wish them all the very best in the next step that they are taking for the future.

These sub committees will be empowered to make decisions , give direction and guidance , as well as report back to the full executive , in line with our current constitution . Megan Kermond State U/20 Representation
04/12/2007
Forestville are very proud to announce that Megan will travel to Albury for the National Championships in February 2008.

Megan has played juniors and is a current member of the senior ABA team. Megan sets a high example to other athletes at the club; she has never made a SASI squad and this will be her first time in a state uniform. Megan has always extended herself by accessing the network of coaches at the club to help her achieve her goal. She is a very hard worker and is always looking to get better, a fine example to the younger players that aspire to reach the next level. Megan is also a very active member at the club helping with coaching your children to reach their potential. We wish her all the best and know she will enjoy every moment, what a great result for such an honest hard worker.

Interstate results
15/06/2007
Thank you to all parents, coaches, players, managers and volunteers, who travelled over the long weekend to compete in several tournemants around Victoria.

The club had 2 teams competing in Ballarat, 15 in Nunawading and 5 to the Classics in Dandenong and Albert Park. As the Classics are an invitation only tournament, based on your State Champ results, it was good to see us sending 5 teams over.

Of those competing at the Classics:

Under 16 Boys finished 15th of 16 Under 12 Girls finished 8th of 16
Under 14 Girls finished 5th of 16
Under 16 Girls finished 8th of 16
Under 18 Girls finished 4th of 16

A special mention to the Under 18 Girls who shared the ball around very well over the weekend. Often giving up a lot of height on their opposition over the three days, they scrapped well and shot at a reasonable percentage to finish a very respectable 4th.

Apart from a coach having his shoes/towells/toiletries hidden by some rogue parents, all involved were well behaved.

PLAYER MEMBERSHIP FEES
05/06/2007
Like most not for profit sporting clubs, Forestville is dependent upon the payment of membership fees for its survival. These fees are critical to enabling the club to pay for player registration and to provide training facilities and dedicated junior coaching personnel, to support your child in his or her basketball development.

In order for our club to continue to provide the current level of service to members, and to enable the club to meet its financial obligations as they arise we require prompt payment of invoices. Unfortunately, the club is incurring significant costs and requiring a substantial commitment of volunteer hours in preparation and delivery of reminder notices and in recovery of outstanding monies.

The non-payment of membership fees is also unfair to all families that have paid their fees by the due date. Hence, the Executive Committee has decided that un-financial players will be restricted from playing. This is not a decision that the Committee has made lightly, and it is requested that all queries relating to fees or fee payment options be directed to Lynne Cowan, who is available after hours on 8272 5662 or via e-mail fees@forestvilleeagles.asn.au

For some member the summer/winter season fees are now overdue and payable and full payment is required, by no later than Friday 22 June 2007. (Unless otherwise indicated on your original invoice)

Should these fees remain unpaid after this date you / your child will be unable to continue playing for the club, until they are paid.

All payments should be made to Michael Sweeney. The club office is open 10am to 3pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and Visa payment options are now available.

To assist in facilitating payment members of the committee will be at the Club office on Saturday 16 June 2007 between 9.00 am and 12.00 noon.

The club will also endeavour to offer various payment options to families in order to assist with family’s needs.

Thank you for your support – we all want to see the Eagles flying high, and we can all play a role in making sure this happens.

The T.I. camps are often used for identifying players who may be eligible for SASI selection at a later date and they are also an opportunity for invited players to compete against their peers.

A special mention to Chris Tormet who made selection in the 'All-Star 5' and to Georgia Minear who took 'Girls MVP' honours.

Well done to you both.

Summer Finals Completed
02/04/2007
On Friday night at Westminster College, the Under 14 Div 1 Girls were finally able to complete their summer season by playing the Grand Final, against Sturt. After a close tussle, the Girls narrowly went down by 3 points. The Girls are coached by Trevor Semmens, who is into his first season at the club, and we wish Trev and the Girls the best of luck for winter.

The Under 20 Div 1 Mens team also played their Grand Final last week, and came away victors by 18 points to North Adelaide. Well done to the boys who can now add the Summer Premiership to their belts.

Thought it’s about time that I send over another update on my time over here in Tennessee. Since we last spoke we have had the Conference Tournament. We made it all the way to the Semi Finals where we disappointingly lost to Union University (our arch rivals who are also from Jackson) 74-97 although earlier in the season we beat them by 2 which was massive because they have been the National Champions in 2005 and 2006.

Postcards from Tara Robinson
17/01/2007
Hey to all my Forestville family,

Just thought I’d drop a quick line which will probably end up being a complete essay. Because there’s so much that’s been happening with me in relation to not only basketball but meeting new people and the silly school system they’ve got over here in the States.

In a quick overview, plane flights were tiring and long but were all completely safe all the way from Adelaide>Sydney>Tokyo>Los Angeles>Memphis>Jackson. Yes a lot of plane flights I know, but I was able to get to the right terminals with very little help.

All Star Excitement
4/12/2006
Forestville Falcons player and Willie Farley fan Lewis Garnham got more than he bargained for while attending the recent NBL All-Star game.

Sporting the letter "R" on his T-shirt, as part of a consortium spelling the name "FARLEY", Lewis was dragged from the crowd during the dunk tournament to participate in a dunk in which he held his phone up to take a photo of Willie dunking over the top of him. Farley went on to make the final of the dunk tournament, and Lewis went home with a great story to tell his mates.

Tara Robinson to USA
4/12/2006
On the 15th of December, Tara Robinson leaves for a 12 month scholarship with Lambuth University in the USA. Lambuth play in the division 1 competition of the NAIA conference in America.

Tara started with the club as an under 14 and continues to play juniors with our Under 21 Womens team. While also playing Under 18's, Tara was invited to play with our Senior Women, where she continues to play well. Throughout her junior career as a player, she has amassed several MVP awards, Most Improved Female within the club, and not to mention state selection on three occassions (as an Under 18 and twice as an Under 20). She is also the reigning MVP of our Under 21 Womens team.

Tara credits Narelle Lindsay as being one of her greatest positive influences at the club, both as a player and as a coach. She believes some of the best advice ever given to her was to 'Play with Confidence', certainly words of wisdom she has taken to heart.

We here at Forestville wish Tara the best of luck and congratulations for the opportunity to play overseas as a result of all your hard work over theyears.

URGENT - Player Subscription Fees
14/11/2006
Like most not for profit sporting clubs, Forestville relies heavily on the payment of subscription fees for its survival. These fees go directly to the club and enable us to support your child in his or her basketball development.

Over the next couple of weeks, invoices for the Summer Season will also be issued, and it is important that all players ensure that their Team Managers have their correct contact details. Any changes or amendments to the team (ie new players or changes to current player details) should be provided to Michael Sweeney, Club Administrative Officer, as soon as possible. This assists the club in ensuring that all records are accurate and players are properly registered with Basketball Adelaide.

In order for our club to continue to be financially viable, we need support from all our members in relation to prompt payment of invoices, as outstanding fees cause an additional and unnecessary financial burden to the club.

Your Executive Committee is constantly monitoring the club’s financial position. At the present time, it is vitally important that all parents who have not paid their fees for the completed Winter Season please do so as soon as possible, or we will have no option but to restrict players from participating in the summer season until financial commitments to the club have been honoured.

The Executive Committee has decided that un-financial players will be unable to play as of 1 December 2006. This is not a decision that the Committee has made lightly, and it is requested that all queries relating to fees or fee payment options be directed to Lynne Cowan, who is available after hours on 8272 5662 or via e-mail fees@forestvilleeagle.asn.au.

All payments should be made to Michael Sweeney. The club office is open 10am to 3pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and Visa payment options are now available. The club will also endeavour to offer various payment options to families in order to assist with family’s needs.

Thank you for your support – we all want to see the Eagles flying high, and we can all play a role in making sure this happens!

Many Thanks

Club acknowledges Jason Dix
30/10/2006
I am pleased to announce that the Club Executive has decided to acknowledge the efforts of one of our best ever players who has announced his retirement recently, Jason Dix.

Jason has been an outstanding ambassador for the club over many years, and has won numerous awards along the way at club level.

Jason is a two time premiership player, dual Woolacott Medallist, won many All Star Five awards at Association level and until recently, was our Senior men’s club captain.

This is truly an outstanding record for an outstanding player, person, and club ambassador.

The Executive would like to recognise Jason for his many years of service to the Forestville Eagles, in a way, that everyone will remember him , by renaming court one at Wayville , Jason Dix Court, for the next 12 months.

Signage will be erected in the near future for everyone to see.

The Executive hope Jason sees this as our way of saying “thank you” and may we wish him and Kylie, all the very best for the future and we hope to see you around the club for many years to come.

Under 14 Nationals
03/10/2006
Forestville's Under 14 Girls Division 1 side participated in the Nationals over in Queensland last week and finished a very respectable 4th place. After finishing top of their pool with good wins to Townsville, Bulleen, Eastern Suns and Gosford, the team then went on to play Nunawading (2nd) which resulted in their first lost, before bouncing back to defeat Bendigo. This resulted in a semi final showdown with Willeton (1st) and saw the Girls taking the game to overtime before succombing by one point. Sydney then awaited in the bronze medal play off for third and fourth and eventually beat the Girls by six points.

This was a fantastic effort by the team to win 5 games and finish 4th from 20 teams that competed in a very strong.

Final standings of the competitions can be found at http://nat5.basketball.net.au/fs_extra.asp?id=30711&OrgID=400

Congratulations to all the Girls, coaching staff and support crew, you've done yourselves and the club proud.
